UFC Lincoln video recap: Gaethje finishes Vick with round 1 KO
In the main event of UFC Lincoln, Justin Gaethje knocked out James Vick in under 90 seconds to get back in the win column.
Justin Gaethje rebounded off consecutive losses by making quick work of James Vick at UFC Lincoln. Gaethje walked away with the sixteenth knockout of his professional career, as well a $50,000 performance bonus for his main event win.
What was the high point of the fight?
Opening up the first round, Vick made use of his reach advantage by staying on the outside, landing several side kicks and some hard body kicks on Gaethje. “The Highlight” continued pressing forward and was trying to get inside striking distance to land shots on Vick.
With less than 90-seconds gone on the clock, Gaethje stepped into striking range and unleashed a massive overhand right that crumbled Vick instantly. After one follow up shot, the referee wasted no time in waving the fight off, and Gaethje celebrated by showing off his signature backflip of the top of the octagon.
Where do these two go from here?
In his post-fight interview, Justin Gaethje and Paul Felder briefly exchanged words, with Gaethje saying he heard Felder wanted to fight him. Gaethje laughed the conversation off by saying he would rather fight former UFC lightweight champion Tony Ferguson instead. Given Felder is unranked at 155-pounds, a fight with Gaethje would be a back-step for “The Highlight”, so maybe a matchup with Kevin Lee would be a good one to make instead.
The loss is just Vick’s second of his professional career, and it snaps the four-fight winning streak he was on prior to UFC Lincoln. “The Texecutioner” will be eager to get back in the cage and rise up the rankings at 155-pounds, so matchups with Michael Chiesa and Alex Hernandez both make sense for Vick.
