[Shooting Sports] Shooting Sports Opens with 3rd Place Finish
Doane Shooting Sports opened the season over the weekend as they competed at the Prairie Circuit Classic Conference meet held at Lincoln County Wildlife Gun Club in North Platte, Nebraska. The Tigers came away with a 3rd place finish as they posted a team score of 2,106. Fort Hays State was the team champion with Midland taking 2nd.
Mason Buzzard (JR/Trenton, Ill.) led the Tigers with an overall score of 444. Jared Crouse (JR/Haigler, Neb.) notched a score of 422 over five events. Katie Petersen (JR/Omaha, Neb.) recorded a score of 418. JJ Iltz (SO/Valleyford, Wash.) posted a 415 total score. Easton Towne finished with a 407 to cap the team's top five scorers.
Also competing for the Tigers were Morgan Psyk (JR/Albertville, Minn.) with a 406, Bailey Gasseling (SO/Lincoln, Neb.) with a 405, Elizabeth Krejci (SO/Louisville, Neb.) with a 355, Trevin Alberts (FR/Lincoln, Neb.) with a 350, and Lillie Bowman (FR/Firth, Neb.) with a 334.
In individual events, the Tigers had several stellar performances. In trap, Petersen was the top female and also 2nd overall with a score of 99. Buzzard tied for 3rd with a score of 98. Psyk was 3rd in the women's division and tied for 13th overall.
For doubles trap, Buzzard finished tied for 3rd with a score of 97. Psyk was 2nd in for the women's competitors with a 90.
Petersen was the top female finisher in the skeet division with a score of 98. She tied for 5th overall along side Buzzard. Petersen again took top female honors in doubles skeet, posting a score of 95. She tied for 10th overall.
Towle led the team in Super Sporting with a score of 61, tied for 33rd.
In the individual standings, Petersen finished 3rd overall in the women's division. Psyk and Gasseling finished 8th and 9th, respectively. Buzzard finished 9th overall in the men's division.
