Cuban artist Tania Bruguera invites Tate visitors to share empathy
Cuban artist Tania Bruguera is encouraging visitors at the Tate Modern to consider the plight of migrants.
The "Crying Room" is filled with a tear-inducing organic compound that causes everyone inside to involuntarily cry.
The artist says she hopes to trigger a shared emotional response.
"There is a big area that requires people working together with their neighbors, the whole piece is about how can we change the idea of community," Bruguera told .
"You are not together because you have the same agenda you are together because you are people and you should work together for the good of everybody.
"This is a very big public moment, then you have a private moment in a room where you can cry and feel for others."
