Volkswagen parts ways with detained Audi boss Rupert Stadler

Berlin (dpa) - German carmaker Volkswagen is to part ways with the suspended chief executive of their subsidiary company Audi, dpa learned Tuesday from sources close to VW‘s supervisory board.Rupert Stadler was arrested in June on suspicion of fraud and collusion. He was immediately suspended as Audi chief executive and from his position on the VW board.The decision for Stadler to depart with immediate effect was mutual, the sources said. The agreement has apparently already been signed. The allegations against Stadler relate to the emissions test cheating scandal that engulfed VW after it emerged in 2015 that the company used software manipulations to make their cars seem less polluting.Following Stadler‘s suspension, Bram Schot, the head of sales and marketing, took over as the firm‘s acting chief executive.Stadler is accused of continuing to sell vehicles in the US and Europe after it became known that they used software that cheated emissions tests.He also reportedly tried to influence a witness during an intercepted phone conversation.
