Mercier Galaxy New -- Big Gap in Seat Tube

Just saw BD has a new entry level bike for dirt cheap.

One thing that caught my attention right away is the enormous empty space betwween the seat tube and the rear tire.

What is it they trying to accojmplish with such a geometry, I wonder.
