Woman found in burning apartment had gunshot wound

AFFTON, Mo. (AP) — A St. Louis County woman is dead following a fire at her apartment, and authorities say she had been shot.

Police and fire crews were called to an apartment complex in the Affton area Tuesday afternoon. The victim was found inside one of the units. Police say she had an apparent gunshot wound.

The woman's name has not been released. Police say she was approximately 50 years old.

St. Louis County police are investigating it as a "suspicious death."

The rest of the apartment complex was evacuated and no other residents were injured.
