Julian Nagelsmann made three changes to the starting line-up that was beaten 2-1 by RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Goalkeeper Oliver Baumann was protected by a back four of Pavel Kaderabek, Kevin Akpoguma, Stefan Posch and Joshua Brenet, who started in place of the injured Nico Schulz. Kerem Demirbay replaced Leonardo Bittencourt in the midfield, where he played alongside Florian Grillitsch and Justin Hoogma. When TSG had possession, Hoogma dropped back between the two centre-backs to form a back three. The attacking triumvirate consisted of Ishak Belfodil, Adam Szalai and Joelinton, who started in place of Andrej Kramaric.
But Julian Nagelsmann brought on the Croatian for Adam Szalai with his first substitution in the second half. Late on, Leonardo Bittencourt and Robin Hack replaced Florian Grillitsch and Kerem Demirbay respectively.
