Dashcam footage of the fatal shooting of Dustin Brian Montano

0

The man who Albuquerque Police Department considered a person of interest in a double homicide died Friday after a deputy-involved shooting in Colorado, according to law enforcement officials in Albuquerque and Colorado.

Deputies wounded Dustin Brian Montano after they say they found him in a Fort Morgan Walmart parking lot and he made a threatening gesture when they approached him. Montano died while hospitalized.

APD called Montano a person of interest after officers found 53-year-old Deborah Martinez and her 17-year-old daughter, Irisa Montano, stabbed to death at the Mesa Ridge Apartments on the 3500 block of Atrisco Drive NW.

APD did not initially call Montano a suspect because they had not interviewed him. Detectives intended to fly to Colorado next week to speak with him. After Montano's death, however, APD Public Information Officer Simon Drobik confirmed that Montano "was also the offender that we were seeking in our double homicide."
