[Softball] Firestorm Take Both Games of the DH
EL CAJON, Calif. — After winning their first GSAC game of the season, the Hawks looked to keep the momentum going against Arizona Christian on Saturday.
Unfortunately for the Hawks, they fell 2-1 in Game 1 and 11-2 in Game 2 to the Firestorm.
The losses drop the Hawks to 7-16 overall and 1-7 in GSAC play.
In Game 1, the Firestorm were on the board first with a run in the third and later a run in the fifth for the 2-0 lead.
The Hawks looked to rally in the seventh inning. Joselle Nicolas singled to enter and was later moved to second on a sac bunt. Noemi Farfan then singled to center field but was called out trying to stretch it to a double. With Nicolas at third, Bailey Romano singled her home to center field to cut the deficit in half. But the Hawks ended the game on a groundout.
Madelyn Jacobs was efficient in her seven innings of work. She allowed six hits two earned runs and struck out four. The Hawks had 10 hits in the game. Nicolas, Tori Harris, and Kaylyn Rubalcava all had two hits
Game 2 was all Firestorm as they scored two runs in the first, a run in the second and four in the third for a 7-2 lead. SDC got their only runs in the game via a little league home run. Torri Harris hit a ball to the third baseman who bobbled the play, then threw the ball into center field trying to get Madison Potts out at second. Harris flew around the bases for the two-run error by ACU.
SDC was held to two hits on the game. Harris tallied one in the sixth after Rubalcava's single in the fifth.
The Hawks will have a couple of days off before hosting Westminister College on Wednesday starting at noon.
