Kathmandu, March 16
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has appointed Prof Dev Narayan Saha as the vice-chancellor of the National Academy of Medical Sciences.
The appointment was made yesterday on the recommendation of Pro-chancellor of NAMS, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health and Population Upendra Yadav.
Similarly, Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Yadav appointed other office-bearers of NAMS yesterday on the recommendation of Vice-chancellor Saha.
Prof Subodh Kumar Adhikari has been appointed rector while Prof Pramila Dewan and Prof Dr Piyush Dahal have been appointed as registrar and dean respectively.
Similarly, Dr Kedar Prasad Century has been appointed as the director of Bir Hospital.
They have been appointed for a four-year term.
DPM Yadav administered the oath of office and secrecy to the vice-chancellor and others in the presence of the prime minister.
After administering the oath of office and secrecy, PM Oli directed NAMS officials to expedite construction work of Bir Hospital in Bhaktapur.
The oldest hospital of the country will be expanding its services in Bhaktapur after completion of the modern and well-equipped hospital building.
PM Oli also directed the newly appointed officials to make the senior doctors of the hospital attend patients. He was of the view that patients got better treatment from senior doctors.
The PM also stressed need to change health workers’ behaviour towards patients.
Meanwhile, staffers of NAMS have expressed dissatisfaction with the appointment of NAMS officials. According to Secretary of NMAS Staff Union Dipak Mudhbari, the Ministry of Health and Population has not made even a single appointment from among NAMS staffers.
“There are 663 government staffers and 700 NAMS staffers working at Bir Hospital and National Trauma Centre, but the government did not appoint any key officials from among NAMS staffers,” he added.
“The government has finally fulfilled the vacant posts, but we are not in a position to welcome the decision as the government completely ignored our demands while appointing the key officials,” said Mudhbari, adding that they would not coordinate with the newly appointed officials.
