Madeleine McCann’s parents fury as Portuguese cop says they risked her murder by publicising ‘death mark’ in her eye
KATE and Gerry McCann have hit out at a Portuguese cop for saying they risked her MURDER by publicising a distinctive mark in her eye.
Goncalo Amaral, 59, told the eight-part documentary that Maddie’s coloboma was a “death mark” – because kidnappers would realise it was impossible to hide her identity.
He said: “That birthmark made her stand out from all the other children.
“As a colleague of ours said, that mark was a ‘death mark’ and if we make this public it can put the child at risk. It puts her survival at risk.”
A source told the Sunday Mirror: “Mr Amaral doesn’t seem to have any compassion for Kate and Gerry and is only interested in publicising himself.
“To criticise them for doing everything they could to help find their daughter is insensitive in the extreme.

“If there is any defamatory content in there then, of course, they will consider what next steps need to be taken.”
Gerry and Kate have slammed the eight-part doc and refused to take part in it despite being asked on numerous occasions.
The group of friends that the McCanns had enjoyed tapas and wine with that night allegedly refused to give interviews for the explosive new documentary.
The doc, that claims Maddie is still alive, is available to be streamed on Netflix today.
