Jamie Carragher reacts to James Milner’s winner in Liverpool FC’s 2-1 win at Fulham
Jamie Carragher praised James Milner for holding his nerve to convert a late penalty to seal Liverpool FC’s 2-1 victory at Fulham on Sunday afternoon.
Jurgen Klopp’s men had the chance to hoist themselves above Manchester City and into top spot after the Citizens were occupied with FA Cup action on Saturday.
Liverpool FC were 3-1 winners against Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday night after Sadio Mane scored twice to help seal their place in the last eight.
Mane continued his fine form with the opener at Craven Cottage when the African forward finished a great team move from the visitors.
However, Fulham were level in the second half when a mix up involving Alisson Becker and Virgil van Dijk allowed former Liverpool FC winger Ryan Babel to equalise.
For 10 minutes, Liverpool FC looked to be facing the prospect of dropping points against the relegation candidates before being handed a late reprieve.
Fulham goalkeeper Sergio Rico was penalised for a foul on Mane and James Milner converted from the penalty spot to seal a 2-1 win.
Former Liverpool FC defender Carragher praised Milner for holding his nerve to score what could prove to be a vital goal in the title race.
“it was very cool under pressure,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“[It was a] great penalty. That could be a massive goal. We don’t know how important that goal could be.”
Liverpool FC are two points ahead of second-placed Manchester City with seven games to go in the title race.
The Reds will welcome third-placed Tottenham Hotspur in their next home fixture on 31 March.
