Stabbing of teen, 19, was far-right ‘terror incident’
The non-fatal stabbing of a 19-year-old in Stanwell, Surrey, has now been declared a terrorist incident, counter terror police have said.
A suspect, 50, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and racially aggravated public order over the attack last night, after police received calls a man had been acting aggressively and shouting racist comments while carrying a baseball bat and a knife.
Assistant Commissioner, Neil Basu, the head of Counter Terrorism Policing, said ‘it has hallmarks of a terror event, inspired by the far right, and therefore it has been declared a terrorism incident’.
The victim remains in hospital after suffering non-life threatening injuries in the attack.
Surrey Police were called to Viola Avenue, Stanwell, just before 10.30pm.
Several nearby vehicles were also damaged in the incident.
A further call was received by Surrey Police at 10.30pm reporting that a man had been stabbed.
It is believed that the suspect is the same man who was reported as acting aggressively, Counter Terrorism Policing South East said in a statement.
