Oyo lawmaker denies involvement in killing of House of Reps member Sugar
- Arrested Oyo state lawmaker Olafisoye Akinmoyede has denied any involvement in the murder of House of Reps member Temitope Olatoye, popularly called Sugar
- Akinmoyede said in a statement by his media aide on Sunday that he had no connection to the said murder
- The lawmaker also denied contesting for same position as Sugar as had been claimed as reason for his alleged plot to kill the late politician
The Chief Whip of Oyo State House of Assembly, Olafisoye Akinmoyede, has exonerated himself from the killing of a member of the House of Representatives Temitope Olatoye
News Agency of Nigeria reports that Olatoye, more popularly known as Sugar, was murdered by unknown gunmen during the Saturday, March 9 governorship and state assembly elections at Lalupon Area of Lagelu local government area of the state.
Akinmoyede, who has been in detention at the State Criminal Investigations Department, Iyaganku, Ibadan in connection with the incident, said that he knew nothing about it.

In a statement issued on Sunday, March 17 by his media aide Segun Olawale, the lawmaker denied any connection to the death of Olatoye.
“Although both of us are from rival political parties, “Sugar” was my friend, brother and long time political ally.
“ We were together in APC for a very long time before he defected to the African Democratic Party (ADP) under whose platform he contested the Oyo South Senatorial election.
“I am a man of peace and this can be attested to by my political associates, my colleagues in the House of Assembly and indeed, the people of my constituency.

“The fact that Sugar and I are not from the same political party does not mean that we should be at each other’s throats.
“Incidentally, we were not contesting for the same political office. While he contested for the Oyo South Senatorial seat, I contested for the Lagelu State Constituency for the second term,” he said.
Legit.ng had reported that the family of Honourable Temitope Olatoye, also known as Sugar, a member of the House of Representatives, who was killed recently in Oyo state, opened up saying his murder was politically motivated.

Sugar was killed on his way to Ibadan during the governorship election. Premium Times reports that Olajide Olatoye, a brother of the late lawmaker, who spoke on Tuesday, March, 12, said the murder of Sugar must be properly investigated.
