Graeme Souness slams David Luiz for failing to ‘take a blow’ before Richarlison scored in Chelsea defeat
GRAEME SOUNESS hammered David Luiz for his passive defending during Chelsea’s Goodison Park defeat.
Luiz failed to clear the Everton corner that led to the Toffees taking a lead and Blues losing a seventh game of the season.
And Sky Sports pundit Souness slammed the Brazilian’s attempt at a clearance before Richarlison tapped in the opener.
The Scot said: “Go and head the ball, son. You might get an elbow across the chops but go and head the ball.
“He’s not paid to ping the ball 30,40 yards from right wing to left wing.
“Defend the centre. You’re in the middle of the goal where the ball’s going to drop, you know the flight it’s coming.

“Just go and attack the ball and take a blow for your team.”
It’s not the first time Luiz has come under scrutiny from analysts on Sky Sports.
In 2011, Gary Neville described the Brazilian as playing like he was controlled by “a 10-year-old on a PlayStation” – a comment he later said was overly critical.
But Luiz and Chelsea are still left falling further away from the Premier League top-four after Sunday’s loss.
Gylfi Sigurdsson added a second which leaves Maurizio Sarri looking towards the Europa League as a backdoor route into next season’s Champions League.
