Brazilian food giant JBS S.A. said Wednesday its U.S.-based pork subsidiary has agreed to buy Cargill's U.S.-based pork business for $1.45 billion. Included in the acquisition are two Midwest meat processing plants that together process 9.3 million hogs. The deal also includes five feed mills and four hog farms. JBS first entered the U.S. pork market with the acquisition of Swift & Company in 2007. In 2009, JBS bought Pilgrim's Pride Corp., the second-largest poultry company in the U.S.

NEW YORK (AP) — The CEOs of government-backed mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are getting large raises, to about $4 million a year, as the government relaxes rules that were imposed on the companies after they suffered big losses and were bailed out.
