Times of Malta

An artist and a group of medical students have created a stunning artwork from cardboard. James Lake began sculpting as part of his recovery after losing his leg through bone cancer aged 17 and he now uses cardboard to create intricately detailed life-size sculptures. The sculpture portrays an anatomical torso, complete with meticulously detailed muscles, spinal cord and face. Students at Exeter University's medical school worked with Mr Lake to create the sculpture's cavity, including internal organs and elements. Читать дальше...

Most vulnerable dying in 'America's Finest City'

«Seattle Post-Intelligencer» (seattlepi.com)

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Christine Wade found a haven in the tent she shared with six children, pitched in an asphalt parking lot. It was, at least, far better than their previous home in the city, a shelter where rats ate through the family's bags of clothes and chewed on 2-year-old Jaymason's stroller. Roughly 50 of the encampment's 200 residents were children, so Wade's kids had plenty of playmates. "It's peaceful here," Wade, 31, who is eight months pregnant, said in an October interview. "There's coffee first thing in the morning. Читать дальше...

Times of Malta

The largest and most destructive of the wildfires in southern California has grown to 140 square miles and fire officials have said the worst may be yet to come. The 90,000-acre fire burning in Ventura County, northwest of Los Angeles, has swept through ridges and canyons to the sea and Santa Ana winds that drove it are expected to return with a vengeance overnight. Gerald Henderson, Tyler Hansbrough Have Some Things To Say

Duke Basketball Report

This sounds good.

Can’t say we saw this coming: after their infamous run-in in 2007 when Gerald Henderson gave Tyler Hansbrough a fairly serious injury, the former rivals have reunited to start a podcast called Tobacco Road which will focus on the Duke-UNC rivalry.

It’s still in the planning stages - you can't get it today - but it’s worth keeping an eye on. Maybe Gerald can ask Hansbrough if he remembers any Swahili.

It won’t be easy though. It’s still a young format and a tough market to, uh, elbow your way into. Читать дальше...
