Roy Moore is defeated in Alabama’s Senate election

The Economist

So they smiled, and made all the right hopeful noises, but around the corners of their eyes you could see them bracing for disappointment.

CABS, Birdlife, call for enforcement of hunting, environment laws

Times of Malta

BirdLife Malta and CABS, the Munich-based anti-bird hunting group, in separate statements today called for the enforcement of environmental and hunting laws. In a letter to Police Commissioner Lawrence Cutajar, CABS complained about almost inexistant enforcement of the hunting laws at night. Instead of taking a clear stand against wildlife crime, the police appeared to be actually tolerating the illegal trapping of plovers and the widespread use of illegal electronic bird callers during the night, it said. College coaches' salaries increase despite threat of new tax

Times Union

WASHINGTON (AP) — A potential new tax on seven-figure salaries for employees of non-profits hasn't deterred schools from doling out huge contracts to new coaches. Football powers aiming for a national title have continued to pay the market rate for proven coaches, topped by the 10-year, $75 million deal for Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M. If the GOP tax overhaul becomes law — perhaps before the end of the year — the school could be on the hook for $15 million in new taxes over the life of that contract. Читать дальше...

The Kids Are Alright: Penguins leading goalie youth movement

Times Union

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jim Rutherford knows what it's like to be a young goaltender trying to find his way in the NHL.
