Hospitality Industry Group Pushes Back On Portland's Attempt To Trademark Bully A Local Brewery

Techdirt

Just a quick update from Portland, Oregon, folks. After the city engaged in some truly impish behavior by trying to bully aside a local brewery that has a trademark on Portland's iconic jumping-deer sign, there have been no further negotiations on a resolution between the two sides. See, the city of Portland really wants to license the trademark for the image of the sign to national and international macrobrewers, whereas Old Town Brewing just wants to have the same trademark rights it has legally... New York Post

Midnight screenings of ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ invade ‘Star Wars’ space

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

Recently on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert,” Mark Hamill called his “Star Wars” films “space westerns.” And that’s exactly right. Nothing wrong with that, but it’s too bad that franchise’s massive success has made true science-fiction films — conceptual works that question our society and our direction — relatively rare. So it’s good news that Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” is invading the space of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” this weekend at the Clay Theatre. Nearly 50 years after its release... Front Page Magazine

Here's the recap.

Peter Strzok, the lead investigator in the Clinton email scandal, was sending pro-Clinton and anti-Trump messages during his extramarital affair with a woman working for FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe. McCabe’s wife had received a sizable amount of money from a Clinton ally. Strzok was on Mueller’s team until he had to be removed because of his shenanigans. Instead of coming clean about his removal, the FBI stonewalled Congress about what really happened.

With its 2003 album, “Wintersongs,” the women’s chorus Kitka explored a repertoire of music suited for the colder parts of the year (assuming you don’t live in California, that is). It featured Christmas and Hanukkah music from Bulgaria, Ukraine, Latvia and elsewhere. Now, to the delight of patient fans, the group has prepared a sequel, “Evening Star,” which promises a wide array of songs in Greek, Yiddish, Serbian and many another language. Kitka plans to celebrate... Читать дальше...

Arroyo, Beede, Slater, Parker still are question marks for Giants

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — Building a team is about understanding what you have, what you need and what you can acquire. By now, the Giants hoped to have more information on Christian Arroyo, Tyler Beede, Austin Slater and Jarrett Parker through their competition in winter ball and the Arizona Fall League. Instead, they all got hurt, or in Parker’s case, got sick, setting back the front office’s evaluation ahead of the winter meetings. Parker got an eye infection that prevented him from going to the Dominican. Читать дальше...

Sabres Lost Point Countdown: 30

SabreSpace: Message Board

Too Soon?

How this thread works:

Last year coming out of the All-star break, the Sabres had 60 points and 22 games remaining. Working on assumption that 93 points is roughly where the playoff bubble sits at the end of the season, the Sabres needed 33 of 44 available points to have a reasonable shot at the playoffs. Starting out the year, there are 164 points available minus 94 points (I'm moving the bubble up a point) == 70 points that can be lost before making the playoffs becomes rather unlikely. It’s not just scandal: Moore lost in Alabama because the GOP agenda is toxically unpopular

Vox

Republicans are now in trouble everywhere.

The easy thing for Republicans to tell themselves after the stinging loss of a Senate seat in Alabama is that they only went down to defeat because the party had the misfortune to nominate someone accused of preying on teenage girls.

And there is something to that. But the Republican Party nominated a man accused of sexual misconduct to run for president in 2016, and that didn’t stop him from winning 62 percent of the vote in Alabama. Donald Trump didn’t just win Alabama a year ago ... Читать дальше...
