UK surgeon admits signing initials on patients' livers

«Seattle Post-Intelligencer» (seattlepi.com)

LONDON (AP) — A British surgeon has admitted assaulting two patients by burning his initials into their livers during transplant operations. Simon Bramhall pleaded guilty Wednesday to two counts of assault, in a case a prosecutor called "without legal precedent in criminal law." Bramhall used an argon beam coagulator, which seals bleeding blood vessels with an electric beam, to mark his initials on the organs. Prosecutor Tony Badenoch says the brandings were "an intentional application of unlawful... Читать дальше...

‘Miracle’ baby survives being born with heart outside her chest

New York Post

Vanellope Hope is a true Christmas miracle. Doctors told new parents Naomi Findley and Dean Wilkins their baby Vanellope had almost no chance of survival because of an extremely rare condition that caused her to be born with her heart outside of her chest. But the Nottinghamshire parents ignored the doctor’s advice to terminate their...

Deputy attorney general grilled by Congress amid attacks on Mueller and the Russia probe

BusinessInsider.com

Andrew Harnik/AP

  • Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein was interviewed by the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday.
  • The testimony came amid attacks by President Donald Trump and his allies on the credibility of the special counsel's Russia investigation.
  • The hearing was scheduled as part of the committee's normal oversight functions, but was used by Republicans to grill Rosenstein about whether the perceived biases of some of Mueller's former agents had tainted the entire investigation. Читать дальше...

SPD gegen Linken-Antrag für höheren Mindestlohn

Europe Online Magazine

Читать дальше...

Re: Troy Deeney and 22 more realistic players you want to see Birmingham City sign

Small Heath Alliance

I won't click the link because it's the Birmingham Vile, but a player Blues should try for (and I said this in the summer) is Mario Gavranović from HNK Rijeka. A poor man's Kevin Phillips, he's a clinical finisher, scores a goal every two games including Champions League games, versatile in that he can play as a lone striker or off a target man or as a number ten. Swiss international so would hopefully get a work permit, still only 28. Under contract until 2018, but would only cost about £3.5 Million if Blues could prise him away.

After near-unanimous bashing of Paul George trade, Pacers deserve an apology
Sporting News
It's about time we apologized, pretty much all of us. Because the Pacers had options this summer when they were on the brink of sending away Paul George, and to most of us, it sure looked — with almost unanimous certainty — that the team had bungled ...

In seiner Geburtsstadt Wiesbaden wurde der TV-Journalist am Mittwoch als Botschafter der Einrichtung «Bärenherz» vorgestellt. Pete King blasts ‘disheveled drunk’ Steve Bannon

New York Post

Republican Rep. Pete King unleashed a blistering attack on alt-right hero Steve Bannon on Wednesday, branding him a “phony” and a “disheveled drunk” who does not deserve a role in national politics. “I don’t think Steve Bannon adds anything positive at all to the dialogue in the country,” the Long Island lawmaker said on MSNBC...

Holly Hunter on ‘Humbling’ SAG Nom After Globes Snub: ‘To Hope Is Cool But to Expect — Deadly’

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

Holly Hunter was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild Award on Wednesday morning for her supportingrole in “The Big Sick,” an honor she calls “humbling” — shortly after the warmly-reviewed indie movie was snubbed by Golden Globes voters. “I guess I’m old enough now to fully have lived the reality of not expecting things,” Hunter told TheWrap about the film’s Globes snub. “To hope is cool but to expect — deadly.” The SAG nod is especially sweet, she said, because: “Recognition from your peers is a particular kind of humbling thing. The Trump administration drops lifetime federal judgeship nomination of 36-year-old who'd never tried a case in his life

The Week

President Trump's ex-ghost-hunting federal judicial nominee — deemed "not qualified" by the American Bar Association but nevertheless approved by Senate Judiciary Committee on a party-line vote — will not ultimately "be moving forward" in the appointment process, NPR learned from a Trump administration official Wednesday. Brett Talley, 36, was in line for a lifetime appointment despite having never tried a case in his life, only practicing law for three years, and forgetting to mention his wife... Читать дальше...

The Ivanka Trump label repositions at home and soars in Asia

The Economist

Waja to go, Ivanka

LAUREN, a Democrat from Maryland, makes an impassioned case for not shopping at Ivanka Trump, the business founded by Donald Trump’s daughter. First comes a predictable argument; she abhors supporting any brand that uses the Trump name. Second, the sparkly sandals she bought back when Ms Trump was a tabloid celebrity, not an adviser to the president, fell apart within a year. Shoppers will soon be able to take such complaints directly to sales staff: the brand is about to open its first standalone store... Читать дальше...

2nd NYC Islamic Terrorist Was Also Diversity Visa Lottery Baby

Front Page Magazine

Diversity. It's a killer.

Akayed Ullah, the 2nd Islamic terrorist to hit New York City in a short amount of time, like Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, the 1st terrorist, was a beneficiary of the visa diversity lottery program. In Ullah's case, he wasn't a direct beneficiary, but it was a combination of chain migration and the diversity visa lottery.

And that's often the case.

Accused New York City bomber Akayed Ullah, originally from Bangladesh, benefitted from the U.S. Visa Lottery program... Читать дальше...

Four women related to a Camorra mobster have been arrested in Italy, in the latest crackdown on females who often take over running mafia businesses when their men are serving time.
