One HBC member, George Haverstraw, is looking into purchasing a pedal assist electric bike. They can be expensive so he checked with his insurance company to make sure it would be covered like any other bike. He was surprised to discover that his insurance company does not cover any bike with a motor, in spite of the fact that the e-bike meets the PA specifications for a bicycle.  The insurance company would cover it as a moped at an additional cost.
