LOS ANGELES (AP) — It was a race against the cluck as California Highway Patrol officers scrambled to rescue nearly 20 chickens that ran through highway lanes near Los Angeles. The CHP says the birds blocked a portion of Interstate 605 in the Norwalk area Tuesday morning after their cage fell from the back of a truck. The agency tweeted photos and video of the chickens in lanes and a motorcycle officer collecting them. Officers managed to rescue 17 birds. Two died. AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — An Austin-area judge has recently launched a new method to track how busy judges are in the nearly 20 county-funded civil and criminal courts. The Austin American-Statesman reports that taxpayers spend about $1.5 billion per year on Travis County's justice system, including costs of jail operations, law enforcement and the courts. NEW YORK (AP) — Peggy Cummins, a Welsh-born stage and film actress who worked just a few years in Hollywood but left behind an indelible performance as the lethal, beret-wearing robber in the noir classic "Gun Crazy," has died at age 92. Cummins, who retired from acting in the early 1960s, died Friday in London at age 92. Her friend Dee Kirkwood said she died of a stroke. London (AFP) – Huddersfield signed Netherlands defender Terence Kongolo on loan from Monaco on Tuesday. Kongolo only joined Monaco from Feyenoord last year, but he will spend the rest of the season in the Premier League.
