A Peruvian police official says at least 25 people died when a bus fell off a cliff after being hit by a tractor-trailer rig. Col. Dino Escudero tells RPP radio the collision sent the bus careening onto a beach 80 meters (262 feet) below on Tuesday. Rescuers were working to pull victims from the hard-to-reach area in Pasamayo, about 70 kilometers (43 miles) north of capital city, Lima. Escudero says he fears the death toll will rise. There were more than 50 people on the bus at the time of the crash.

Lawyers for Individual A filed a motion for a protective order last week as they pursue his lawsuit against the former speaker.

The U.N. Security Council has welcomed six new non-permanent members — Equatorial Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kuwait, the Netherlands, Peru, and Poland. A fiery motorway crash in northern Italy has killed six people, according to reports. RAI state TV quoted firefighters in Brescia as saying that five of the dead, including two children, were in a car, and the sixth victim was a truck driver. RAI said traffic on the A21 route had already slowed to a crawl because of an earlier accident when a truck loaded with sand struck the car in front of it, which in turn slammed into a tanker truck whose flammable liquid cargo caught fire.
