Happy New Year links!

The fun of the holidays is over, and it’s back to the grind for most of us. Here on the site, that means, among other things, a return to the 40 in 40, which kicked off yesterday if you missed it. Jerry Dipoto probably spent New Year’s Day frantically digging his burner phones out of the Hawaiian sands he buried them in last week. Here’s hoping you had a more fun first day of 2018.

The Toronto Marlies finished off a tough end to 2017 in style by beating the Belleville Senators 5-1.

A three-point performance from The Goat Frederik Gauthier, the first AHL goal for rookie centerman Adam Brooks, and a three-assist afternoon from Travis Dermott helped the young Leafs snap out of a recent spell where they lost six of seven games.

Miss America Organization’s board of directors announced Monday that 1989 crown winner Gretchen Carlson will take over as chairman effective immediately.

Laura Kaeppeler Fleiss, Miss America 2012, Heather French Henry, Miss America 2000, and Kate Shindle, Miss America 1998 were also named to the Board as Directors.

 Greek authorities say a young tourist couple has been found dead in a house they were renting on a western island, with initial indications pointing to a double suicide, Ekathimerini writes. 

Police said Tuesday the couple, whose bodies were found on the island of Cephalonia, had been identified as a 30-year-old German man and a 23-year-old woman of Bulgarian descent.
