Italy lets migrants leave ship, 10 days after they were first rescued

The Italian government are allowing 130 people stranded on a migrant rescue ship to disembark. More than one hundred passengers, mostly Eritreans, were stuck on the ship as it sat in port for almost a week. The Italian government refused to let them off while it fought with the EU about their fate.

Indecently dressed man disobeyed police, court told

A man accused of being indecently dressed and disobeying police orders has been remanded in custody. Zere Negasi Gebrehiwot, 28, from Eritrea, was also charged with reviling, threatening or causing bodily harm to two police officers, and disturbing public peace in the early morning hours on Sunday. Inspector Elliott Magro prosecuted the man, who holds a Greek residence permit. While the validity of the arrest was not contested and the case was adjourned, legal aid Dustin Camilleri reserved the right to request bail at a later stage. Читать дальше...
