Bad Left Hook

The new WBA champ has big plans for his first defense.

Callum Smith, who won the WBA super middleweight title and the Ali Trophy this past Saturday in Saudi Arabia by knocking out George Groves, is hoping to make his first world title defense a memorable one.

Smith says he wants to fight at Anfield, the home of Liverpool FC.

“Most definitely, the dream has always been to fight at Anfield. I’ve done my part, I’ve brought a world title back, and they have just got a licence to have other events, so it could be meant to be.

Candidates hoping to steal Wentworth from the Liberal Party in the upcoming by-election are increasingly focusing on climate change and the Morrison government's perceived lack of commitment in tackling the issue.

Heed objectors’ voice

Times of Malta

I refer to the article Talking Point by Desmond Zammit Marmarà (‘A perversion of democracy’, September 25). He has certainly hit the nail on its head because the (db Group) project has been met by the biggest opposition all round. Hats off to the correspondent, a Balzan Labour councillor, who spoke openly on the subject. For some time, I was a member of the St Julian’s local council’s environment committee. I fully agree with Zammit Marmarà that local councils should be given more say. The subject in question has raised the alarm. Читать дальше...

«SFGate» (sfgate.com)

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Attorney General Jeff Sessions is providing an update on a Bush era crime-fighting strategy that emphasizes aggressive prosecution of gun and gang crimes. Sessions has planned a trip to Columbus Tuesday to talk about the program known as Project Safe Neighborhoods. The attorney general revived the nearly two-decade-old program last year as part of the Trump administration's tough-on-crime agenda. Part of the initiative focuses on sending certain gun crimes to federal court, where they carry longer sentences. Читать дальше...

What Does ‘Credible’ Mean?

The American Spectator

Something is wrong with Christine Blasey Ford’s story, and not just the fact that none of the people she named as witnesses to her alleged 1982 encounter with Brett Kavanaugh remember any such incident. There is a conspicuous hole in Professor Ford’s biography — some important details seem to be missing — and we don’t […]

Charles Aznavour, Major French Poet

The American Spectator

Charles Aznavour gave his all to French literature, and it was a good thing he lived to a great old age, because his gifts were good ones, they will last. The world famous singer, who died a couple days ago at 94, wrote his own songs. They were about everything — everything he felt. You […]

The Dems’ Midterm Mess

The American Spectator

Thursday’s Christine Ford-Brett Kavanaugh Senate spectacle was great for cable news ratings, if perhaps not so good for any chance of ending the increasing polarization of the American people. What’s becoming clear is that the Christine Ford allegations, and the follow-on accusations of sexual misconduct against the Supreme Court nominee even less credible than those […]

Perils of the Part-Time Driver

The American Spectator

Big Brother has been riding shotgun for years, but he’s never been able to actually watch what we do in our cars. That’s about to change. He’ll soon be able to tell whether we’re sleeping or texting or doing other things unrelated to driving. Which isn’t the bad part. BMW just publicly revealed its new camera-based driver monitoring […]
