U17 football: Sweden defeats Thailand 3-1

Sweden maintained their winning streak in three nation U17 football tournament after beating Thailand 3-1 here on Sunday. Marwa Said (26th minute and 90+4) and Monica Bah (70th) scored for Sweden, while Khwanjira Wong (65rd) scored on a penalty for Thailand. Courtesy the win, Sweden booked a place in the final. They had defeated hosts India 3-0 in the lung-opener on Friday. In the opening four minutes, Thailand earned two free-kicks, but failed to score. Local CPI-M leader suspended for organising DJ party for son's

The CPI(M) in Kerala on Sunday suspended a local leader from Kanjikuzhi in Alappuzha district after he allegedly organised a DJ party for his son's wedding reception. CPI(M) Area Committee member Manoharan was suspended for six months for going against the party's declared ideology and ethics of not to conduct pompous weddings. Though Manoharan claimed that it was his son who had organised the reception, the Left party did not accept the explanation and suspended him for six months. Fire in Civil Secretariat Jammu

A fire broke out in the office of the Law Department at Civil Secretariat here on Sunday, an official of the Fire and Emergency services said. However, no one was injured in the incident but there was damage to some office equipment and furniture. The fire broke out in the ground floor in the Civil Secretariat involving the office of the deputy secretary Law Department and accounts section around 3.45 am, the official said. : Opposing the Centre's Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), various organisations staged a protest here on Sunday, police said. Holding placards that read "Withdraw CAA Permanently", "Reject CAA and Boycott NRC", among others, the protesters, wearing black bands, waved black flags raised slogans. "A dharna was staged under the leadership of different organisations against the Citizenship Amendment Act," a protester said.
