'Centre's non-disbursal of funds behind fuel price rise in MP'

Madhya Pradesh minister Brajendra Singh Rathore on Sunday said non-disbursal of funds by the Centre was responsible for the hike in the Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel in the state. The Minister for Commercial Tax made the statement while talking to reporters here. "We have to run the welfare schemes for the poor, but the Centre is yet to release about Rs 13,000 crore to the state under various heads. Provide food, water to stranded passengers: Mamata to dist

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday directed the Coochbehar and Jalpaiguri district authorities to ensure supply of food and water to train and bus passengers stranded due to blockades put up by people protesting citizenship law, officials said. The district magistrates of the two districts were told to make sure that the passengers stranded on the roads and the tracks do not face problems in getting food and water, a senior government official said.

Over 14,000 prosecutions withdrawn under cos law

The government on Sunday said more than 14,000 prosecutions have been withdrawn under the Companies Act as it undertook various steps to improve the ease of doing business in the country, including de-criminalisation of various penal provisions under this law. Listing out the measures taken, the corporate affairs ministry said it has set up the Central Registration Centre for name reservation and incorporation of companies and LLPs within 1-2 days as opposed to an average of at least 15 days earlier.
