For a long time Black British mothers were invisible. We weren’t in the adverts for nappies or follow-on milk, we weren’t in the parenting magazines or modelling maternity wear on the high street. Our experiences only existed in private conversations in the comfort of living rooms, around cosy kitchen tables or in hushed tones in the sensory room at the local soft play centre.

The body faces an uncertain future after the state government rejected its application for multi-year funding worth $175,000 annually.

Local residents rushed to contain the oil spill that befell Mauritius after a bulk carrier run aground a coral reef on the island on July 25. Residents made makeshift absorbent barriers of straw-stuffed into fabric sacks in a bid to contain and absorb the oil. Some of the oil has already reached the coasts.
