China Market ends lower

At closing bell, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dropped 1.47%, or 48.19 points, to 3,224.53. The Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, fell 2.29%, or 51.51 points, to 2,198.07. The blue-chip CSI300 index declined 1.63%, or 77.58 points, to 4,695.34. The Shanghai Composite Index slid 1.6 per cent from Monday, capping a second weekly setback.

Japan lifts entry ban for Thailand, with conditions

TOKYO: Japan will lift its entry ban on foreign travellers from Thailand and eight other countries starting on Sunday, as it gradually eases Covid-19 travel restrictions in a bid to revive its battered economy.



NatWest warns of hard times, in spite of the return to profit

NatWest Group has swung back to profit after a sharp fall in bad debt provisions but its chief executive cautioned that renewed Covid-19 restrictions meant there were “challenging times” ahead. NatWest – formerly known as Royal Bank of Scotland – put aside another £254m to cover a potential surge in defaults linked to the coronavirus crisis in the third quarter, 60% lower than the £628m that analysts expected.
