Iraq Moves To Exploit Its Massive Natural Gas Reserves

Oilprice.com

Official estimates are that Iraq’s proven reserves of conventional natural gas amount to at least 3.5 trillion cubic meters (tcm), or about 1.5 percent of the world’s total, placing Iraq 13th among global reserve-holders, with around three-quarters of this figure comprising associated gas that is found in the same reservoirs as oil. The International Energy Agency, though, estimates that ultimately recoverable resources will be considerably larger, at 8.0 tcm, of which around 30 percent is thought... Читать дальше...

SARS-CoV-2 Viral Variants—Tackling a Moving Target

Jamanetwork.com

In this issue of JAMA, Zhang and colleagues report the emergence of a novel severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) variant in Southern California that accounted for 44% (37 of 85) of samples collected and studied in January 2021. The terminology of viral variation can be confusing because the media and even scientific communications often use the terms variant, strain, and lineage interchangeably. The terminology reflects the basic replication biology of RNA viruses that results... Читать дальше...

Omega-3 Fatty Acids Effect on Major Cardiovascular Events in Patients at High Cardiovascular Risk—Reply

Jamanetwork.com

In Reply The letter from Dr Olshansky and colleagues proposes several hypotheses to explain the different outcomes in the REDUCE-IT and STRENGTH trials. They suggest that the greater content of EPA (4 g/d) administered in REDUCE-IT produced superior results but also suggest that the results were replicated in JELIS, an open-label study that used only 1.8 g/d. If EPA dosage is the critical issue, then the 4 g/d administered in STRENGTH should have produced some benefit. These authors suggest a threshold effect... Читать дальше...

Omega-3 Fatty Acids Effect on Major Cardiovascular Events in Patients at High Cardiovascular Risk

Jamanetwork.com

To the Editor I am concerned that the STRENGTH trial did not have adequate treatment adherence, as evidenced by plasma EPA and DHA levels that increased by 269% and 40%, respectively, after treatment with omega-3 fatty acids for 12 months. This increase was lower than expected because the authors had previously shown that treatment with the same omega-3 formulation at the same dose for 3 months increased plasma EPA and DHA by 406% and 72%, respectively. Another report demonstrated that treatment... Читать дальше...
