UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya is facing middleweight No.1 contender Jared Cannonier at UFC 276 at the T-mobile Arena, Las Vegas. Odometers, mileages and Maltese logic – Arthur Muscat

Times of Malta

About a fortnight ago, I came across a short MaltaToday report on a meeting with a mechanic. The report informs that this mechanic unknowingly participated in a scam allegedly pulled off by two second-hand car dealers. The scam consisted of reducing, by thousands, the kilometres recorded on the odometers of imported Japanese second-hand cars. Allegedly, this allowed an upward effect on the price to be charged for each vehicle. It appears there are now hundreds of angry car buyers who feel cheated... Читать дальше...

People have a right to feel safe – Graham Bencini

Times of Malta

The ninth and 10th districts I represent were for many decades the symbol of one of best quality of lives one can achieve. Early morning mass and a chat on the way home; a walk along the Sliema front at sunset during the stifling August heat to catch the sea breeze; a jog at sunrise from the ‘Love’ monument in St Julian’s to Manoel Island and back; a coffee at the Gabbana; a swim along the coast; a meal at one of the many restaurants and clubbing in Paceville. The area is home to both old and... Читать дальше...

Editorial: Sound journalism is not for sale

Times of Malta

Searching for and exposing the truth is what sound journalism is all about. It certainly does not depend on the colour of money. The culture of impunity facilitated the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia. The mastermind/s behind it thought they could shut her up for good. They were wrong. It gave more credibility to her revelations and set in motion a sequence of events that caused a political earthquake. Ironically, on the fifth anniversary of that atrocious crime, it appears the bad apples think that... Читать дальше...

Still not a woman’s world – Anna Marie Galea

Times of Malta

There’s a moment in every girl’s life where she realises that she is not equal to her male counterpart. Whether it’s the first time she is called bossy when she asserts herself “too much” in class or when comments are made about the length of her skirt, or when she feels a watchful pair of eyes on her back as she gets off the school bus. The chasm between the sexes starts early and gets deeper as the years roll on. By the time a girl reaches her teens, she simply takes it for granted that she can’t go out jogging after sunset... Letters to the editor - July 3, 2022

Times of Malta

Burying the jewel I write in response to Fr Charles Cini’s heartfelt plea for common sense in the mad rush in Gozo to despoil our island (June 26). Frankly, I do not blame the Gozitans who, like any other human beings, when presented with a fistful of cash, would sell a decrepit property and not think of the consequences. I do not even blame the minister for Gozo (although, as the title suggests, he is supposed to be for all Gozo, not the interests of the few). No, it is the Planning Authority ... Читать дальше...

Silence of the wolves – Manuel Delia

Times of Malta

The justice minister warned an opposition MP to mind his language when criticising Victoria Buttigieg for effectively acquitting two lawyers for trying to bribe a journalist, instead of securing their conviction. He mumbled something about the independence of institutions, which is nice. Except no one is suggesting the attorney general should not be independent. The outrage was because, apart from her independence, some people also expect the AG to be competent and loyal to law-abiding citizens. Читать дальше...
