Cameras to catch UK drivers on their phones

Avanti restores some services, but pressure continues

Railnews - Avanti West Coast is restoring some of the trains which were withdrawn last month, but one group of business leaders and politicians is calling for its government contract to be withdrawn. Avanti said there would be further improvements in December. For now, AWC is adding back 70 services a week on the routes between London, the West Midlands and Manchester, with a further uplift in mid-December, when there will be more trains between London and Manchester, Birmingham and north Wales as well as services to Liverpool and Scotland. RMT calls second October strike

Railnews - The RMT has called a further 24-hour strike on 8 October, as the deadlock over railway pay continues. The RMT will be calling out 40,000 workers at Network Rail and 15 train operators. The walkout will follow strikes by both ASLEF and the RMT on 1 October, and another ASLEF drivers' stoppage on 5 October.
