Hanukah And Prophet Muhammad – OpEd

Eurasia Review

When Jews celebrate Hanukah (this year December 18-25, 2022) I hope that both Jews and Muslims will also remember all oppressed religious communities, such as the Rohingya people of Myanmar, the Uighurs in China’s Xinjiang Province, and the brave Muslim woman of Iran who have suffered hundreds of martyrs: because Hanukah teaches the very important lesson that faith and hope in the long run overcome nasty politics and politicians.

Researchers say space atomic clocks could help uncover the nature of dark matter

Spacedaily.com

Tokyo, Japan (SPX) Dec 06, 2022 - Studying an atomic clock on-board a spacecraft inside the orbit of Mercury and very near to the Sun might be the trick to uncovering the nature of dark matter, suggests a new study published in Nature Astronomy.

Dark matter makes up more than 80 per cent of mass in the universe, but it has so far evaded detection on Earth, despite decades of experimental efforts. A key component of these searches is an assumption about the local density of dark matter, which... Читать дальше...

Webb telescope promises new age of the stars

Spacedaily.com

Paris (AFP) Dec 7, 2022 - The James Webb Space Telescope lit up 2022 with dazzling images of the early universe after the Big Bang, heralding a new era of astronomy and untold revelations about the cosmos in years to come.

The most powerful observatory sent into space succeeds the Hubble telescope, which is still operating, and began transmitting its first cosmic images in July.

Unusual gamma-ray burst reveals previously undetected hybrid neutron-star merger event

Spacedaily.com

Los Alamos NM (SPX) Dec 08, 2022 - The standard view of gamma-ray bursts as a signature for different types of dying stars might need a rewrite. Recent astronomical observations, supported by theoretical modeling, reveal a new observational fingerprint of neutron-star mergers, which may shed light on the production of heavy elements throughout the universe.

"Astronomers have long believed that gamma-ray bursts fell into two categories: long-duration bursts from imploding stars and short-duration bursts from merging compact stellar objects... Читать дальше...

Gamma-ray burst is 'Rosetta Stone' for finding neutron star collisions

Spacedaily.com

Birmingham UK (SPX) Dec 08, 2022 - A highly unusual blast of high-energy light from a nearby galaxy has been linked by scientists to a neutron star merger.

The event, detected in December 2021 by NASA's Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory and the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope, was a gamma-ray burst - an immensely energetic explosion which can last from a few milliseconds to several hours.

Hubble detects ghostly glow surrounding our Solar System

Spacedaily.com

Baltimore MD (SPX) Dec 09, 2022 - Aside from a tapestry of glittering stars, and the glow of the waxing and waning Moon, the nighttime sky looks inky black to the casual observer. But how dark is dark?

To find out, astronomers decided to sort through 200,000 images from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope and made tens of thousands of measurements on these images to look for any residual background glow in the sky, in an ambitious project called SKYSURF. This would be any leftover light after subtracting the glow from planets... Читать дальше...

NASA is testing a new robotic arm that really knows how to chill out

Spacedaily.com

Pasadena CA (JPL) Dec 06, 2022 - Future planetary missions could explore in extremely cold temperatures that stymie existing spacecraft, thanks to a project under development at JPL.

When NASA returns to the Moon with Artemis, the agency and its partners will reach unexplored regions of the lunar surface around the South Pole, where it can get much colder at night than even on frigid Mars. Such surface conditions would be challenge for current spacecraft, which rely on energy-consuming heaters to stay warm. Читать дальше...

An automated way to assemble thousands of objects

Spacedaily.com

Boston MA (SPX) Dec 08, 2022 - The manufacturing industry (largely) welcomed artificial intelligence with open arms. Less of the dull, dirty, and dangerous? Say no more. Planning for mechanical assemblies still requires more than scratching out some sketches, of course - it's a complex conundrum that means dealing with arbitrary 3D shapes and highly constrained motion required for real-world assemblies.

Human engineers, understandably, need to jump in the ring and manually design assembly plans... Читать дальше...

As AI rises, lawmakers try to catch up

Spacedaily.com

Paris (AFP) Dec 7, 2022 - From "intelligent" vacuum cleaners and driverless cars to advanced techniques for diagnosing diseases, artificial intelligence has burrowed its way into every arena of modern life.

Its promoters reckon it is revolutionising human experience, but critics stress that the technology risks putting machines in charge of life-changing decisions.

Nations step up space cooperation

Spacedaily.com

Beijing (XNA) Dec 09, 2022 - Scientists from Saudi Arabia will soon have the opportunity to carry out an experiment aboard China's Tiangong space station that is expected to help with the design and production of high-efficiency solar cells.

According to an agreement signed in March 2021 by the Saudi Space Commission and China Manned Space Agency, the Saudi experiment will focus on studying the effects of cosmic rays on the performance of high-efficiency solar cells.
