Drosophila RhoGAP18B regulates actin cytoskeleton during border cell migration

Plos.org

by Fengyun Lei, Xiaoqing Xu, Jianhua Huang, Dan Su, Ping Wan

Drosophila RhoGAP18B was identified as a negative regulator of small GTPase in the behavioral response to ethanol. However, the effect of RhoGAP18B on cell migration is unknown. Here, we report that RhoGAP18B regulates the migration of border cells in Drosophila ovary. The RhoGAP18B gene produces four transcripts and encodes three translation isoforms. We use different RNAi lines to knockdown each RhoGAP18B isoform, and find that knockdown of RhoGAP18B-PA... Читать дальше...

Prevalence and factors associated with dyslipidemia in Bangladeshi adults

Plos.org

by Nurshad Ali, Mitu Samadder, Rahanuma Raihanu Kathak, Farjana Islam

Background

Dyslipidemia is one of the modifiable risk factors for cardiovascular disease and a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. This study was designed to estimate the prevalence and factors associated with dyslipidemia in Bangladeshi adults.

Methods

A total of 603 participants aged ≥ 18 years were recruited in the study. Serum levels of total cholesterol (TC), triglycerides (TG), low-density... Читать дальше...

Gender differences in tuberculosis patients with comorbidity: A cross-sectional study using national surveillance data and national health insurance claims data in South Korea

Plos.org

by Daseul Moon, Dawoon Jeong, Young Ae Kang, Hongjo Choi

The coexistence of tuberculosis and other chronic diseases complicates disease management. Particularly, the lack of information on the difference in the prevalence of chronic diseases in tuberculosis based on age and gender can hinder the establishment of appropriate public health strategies. This study aimed to identify age- and gender-based differences in the prevalence of chronic diseases as comorbidities in patients with tuberculosis. Читать дальше...

Preoperative overweight and obesity do not cause inferior outcomes following open-wedge high tibial osteotomy: A retrospective cohort study of 123 patients

Plos.org

by Cheng-Yi Wu, Jen-Wei Huang, Chang-Hao Lin, Wei-Hsing Chih

Open-wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO) is effective in treating medial compartment osteoarthritis. The association between body mass index (BMI) and outcomes following OWHTO is being debated. This study compared radiographic and clinical outcomes between patients with preoperative overweight, obesity, and normal BMI following OWHTO for medial compartment osteoarthritis. In total, 123 patients (123 knees) who underwent OWHTO for... Читать дальше...

A single-molecule method for measuring fluorophore labeling yields for the study of membrane protein oligomerization in membranes

Plos.org

by Melanie Ernst, Tugba N. Ozturk, Janice L. Robertson

Membrane proteins are often observed as higher-order oligomers, and in some cases in multiple stoichiometric forms, raising the question of whether dynamic oligomerization can be linked to modulation of function. To better understand this potential regulatory mechanism, there is an ongoing effort to quantify equilibrium reactions of membrane protein oligomerization directly in membranes. Single-molecule photobleaching analysis is particularly... Читать дальше...

The stigmatization of mental illness by mental health professionals: Scoping review and bibliometric analysis

Plos.org

by Michael Jauch, Stefano Occhipinti, Analise O’Donovan

Although research suggests that mental health professionals stigmatize mental illness, studies on this topic are relativity new. Little is known about the state of this research and existing literature reviews exhibit multiple limitations. Accordingly, a scoping review was performed on the endorsed stigmatization of mental illness by mental health professionals, with the aim of exploring how research is conducted and whether there are gaps in the literature. Complications of biliary stenting versus T-tube insertion after common bile duct exploration: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Plos.org

by Reno Rudiman, Ricarhdo Valentino Hanafi, Almawijaya, Freda Halim

Background

Complications following the insertion T-tube or stent after common bile duct exploration (CBDE) remain problematic in nowadays surgical era. Based on our knowledge, we did not find any meta-analysis intentionally evaluating the complications between both groups. At this moment, we aimed to analyze and compare both procedures’ complications, efficacy, efficiency, and feasibility.

Methods

We searched literature from four databases (EuroPMC... Читать дальше...
