Teachers and classmates at the history lectures in Kollam’s Sree Narayana College used to be amused at the lanky, dreamy eyed, forever smiling student who was more interested in the grassy field, that passed as a hockey pitch.
"If we do that, I can also say that I have a medal from the Olympics as well as from the World Cup," Sreejesh said on getting a podium finish at the World Cup.

Star India men's hockey team goalkeeper PR Sreejesh has achieved almost everything in his 17-year-long illustrious career, except for a World Cup medal and he wants to fulfil his "dream" this time in the ongoing showpiece at home.
Amit Rohidas, the first non-tribal Olympian of Odisha and also the vice-captain of the team, scored India's first goal at the Hockey World Cup. The match was held in Rourkela, around 130kms from his village.

It was always going to be a tall ask. England’s emphatic, though surprising, 4-0 win over Spain meant India had to beat Wales by a seven-goal margin to top the pool and qualify directly for the quarterfinals.
While it may not have been a routine win for India, the way they’d have expected it to be, last night belonged to Akashdeep Singh.

Wales prepare to defend their goal
Wales produced their best display of the men's Hockey World Cup so far as they narrowly lost to hosts India in their final pool game.
India will play New Zealand— the third-placed team in Pool C— on Sunday in their crossover match in a bid to reach the quarter-finals.

England has ended Pool D in front of hosts India at the International Hockey Federation (FIH) Men's Hockey World Cup, beating Spain 4-0 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
England beat Spain 4-0 to finish top of Pool D and secure their place in the Hockey World Cup quarter-finals.

Phil Roper scored the opener in the 11th minute and 10 minutes later David Condon added a second.
England Men face Wales, India and Spain in the group stages at the FIH Odisha Hockey Men's World Cup in Bhubaneswar and Rourkela, India.

In one corner of the west stand of the empty Kalinga stadium in Bhubaneswar, a group of Dutch fans cheered every time the Netherlands scored the goal. It happened 14 times to be precise, followed by some extra cheer at the end as the Netherlands rout Chile 14-0 and created a new record for the biggest win margin. Among the crowd was Jacques Brinkman, two-time Olympic and World Cup gold medallist. He had come to cheer his son Thierry, the captain of the Dutch team.
