Clouds, drizzle trigger 5.3° fall in mercury

With Ludhiana reporting cloudy conditions and drizzle on Friday, the maximum temperature which had crossed 21° mark on Thursday witnessed 5.3° fall to settle at 16.2°C. The minimum temperature (10°C) though did not see much change during the past two days.

NCB seizes 66 liquor vends of drug syndicate kingpin

The National Crime Bureau (NCB) in Ludhiana, India, has seized 66 liquor stores owned by Akshay Chhabra, a drug lord, in a crackdown on the liquor business. Chhabra had invested drug money into the stores, and the stores' licenses have been frozen. Chhabra's close aide, Sandeep Singh, was arrested in November and has been charged with drug trafficking. So far, 16 people have been arrested in the case, including Chhabra and two Afghan nationals.

Police nab 3 criminals in Kannauj dist

Three criminals were arrested in Kanpur late Wednesday night after they were found to be in possession of a container looted recently from an Etawah Inspector's office. The police also recovered three firearms from the suspects. The criminals have confessed to committing the loot and robbing a container in Etawah district.

Man held for printing fake currency notes

Ankit, a man in Kanpur, India, was arrested on Wednesday for printing and circulating fake currency notes. He has reportedly made startling revelations about how he and his friend Aman were forced to print the fake notes because they had lost money in an online game. The money belonged to their mothers, and they invested Aman's mother's one lakh rupees while Ankit invested his own mother's five lakh rupees.
