The Commonwealth of Virginia traces its roots to the perennial quest for gold. England's King James I chartered what would become the Virginia Company in 1606 in a colonizing pursuit of gold, spices and land. While land was abundant, there were no discoveries of spices or gold. Renewed buzz about prospects for Virginia gold was prompted by a future U.S. president, Thomas Jefferson, publicizing in 1782 the discovery of a 1.8-kilogram gold-bearing rock on the north side of the Rappahannock River. Knicks C Jericho Sims has shoulder surgery, out for playoffs

New York Knicks center Jericho Sims underwent surgery on his right shoulder and will miss the remainder of the playoffs. The surgery to repair a torn labrum and cuff tendon was performed Wednesday at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. NICER detects quasi-periodic oscillations in X-ray binary 4U 1730–22

Using the Neutron Star Interior Composition Explorer (NICER) onboard the International Space Station (ISS), an international team of astronomers has detected millihertz quasi-periodic oscillations from a low-mass X-ray binary known as 4U 1730–22. The finding was reported in a paper published March 29 in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society.
