28,000 J-K government employees under I-T department scanner for claiming bogus refunds

Over 28,000 government employees including police and paramilitary force personnel are being investigated by the Income-tax department for falsely claiming refunds while filing their ITRs. The department has filed two criminal FIRs against a Chartered Accountant and other people who were assessed in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The fraudulent tax refunds amount to Rs 16.72 crore between financial years 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20.
