Mahindra & Mahindra in talks for Rs 5,000 crore EV push from British International, others

If the discussions on Mahindra Electric Automobile do lead to a favourable conclusion, the British development financier will be making its second-round investment in the Indian conglomerate. The deal valuation is likely to be worth 10-15% more than the previous round of funding, which had valued Mahindra's EV subsidiary at ₹70,070 crore ($9.1 billion), said one of the sources.

The Sunday Times ran a long article today about bananas. The standard banana we all eat is a variety cultivated in the 1830s in a massive greenhouse in Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.

The greenhouse was designed by a bloke called Josoph Paxton and a quick Google revealed that all the glass was made by Birmingham glass manufacturers Chance Brothers.

I wish us Brummies would blow our own trumpet a bit more.

300 Migrants Missing at Sea Near Spanish Canary Islands: Aid Group

At least 300 people who were traveling on three migrant boats from Senegal to Spain's Canary Islands have disappeared, migrant aid group Walking Borders said Sunday.  Two boats, one carrying about 65 people and the other with between 50 and 60 on board, have been missing for 15 days since they left Senegal to try to reach Spain, Helena Maleno of Walking Borders told Reuters.  A third boat left Senegal on June 27 with about 200 people aboard.  The families of those on board have not heard from them since they left, Maleno said.
