In Reply We appreciate the comments by Dr Gu and colleagues about our study that evaluated the effect of oral intrapartum azithromycin vs placebo on neonatal sepsis or death. This double-blind randomized clinical trial of 11 983 birthing parents and their newborns in The Gambia and Burkina Faso found that azithromycin did not reduce neonatal sepsis or mortality, but did reduce the incidence of several secondary end points, such as mastitis in birthing parents and skin infections in neonates.

To the Editor A recent study showed pretransplant persistence of FLT3 internal tandem duplication (FLT3-ITD) and NPM1 variants in adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) to be an effective predictor of posttransplant relapse. We have several observations about this study.

To the Editor The recent Review about primary brain malignancies in adults recommended that “patients receiving the equivalent of prednisone 20 mg daily for more than a month…should receive prophylaxis for Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia.” In Table 1 in the article, the authors listed the 4 recommended P jirovecii pneumonia prophylaxis medications with their doses and highlighted sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim as the “preferred” agent with the justification that it “reduces incidence of P jirovecii... To the Editor We have several comments about the recent randomized clinical trial that investigated the effect of intrapartum azithromycin on neonatal sepsis and death.

In 1984, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved nicotine gum as the first pharmacotherapy for cigarette smoking cessation. Other types of nicotine replacement therapy have followed (nicotine lozenges, transdermal patches, inhaler, and a nasal spray), and in 1997, the first non-nicotine pharmacotherapy, bupriopion, was approved.
