Prefabricated concrete components combination schemes selection based on comprehensive benefits analysis

Plos.org

by Shuqiang Wang, Zengjiayu Wang, Yuke Ruan

In prefabricated buildings, there are numerous types of prefabricated components, forming a complex combination of schemes that are difficult to select. Therefore, this article takes prefabricated components combination schemes as the object. By constructing the evaluation index system through four aspects of assembly rate, cost, duration, and carbon footprint, then using the fuzzy gray correlation projection method to evaluate and select. A residential in Wuhan... Читать дальше...

Imaging feature-based clustering of financial time series

Plos.org

by Jun Wu, Zelin Zhang, Rui Tong, Yuan Zhou, Zhengfa Hu, Kaituo Liu

Timeseries representation underpin our ability to understand and predict the change of natural system. Series are often predicated on our choice of highly redundant factors, and in fact, the system is driven by a much smaller set of latent intrinsic keys. It means that a better representation of data makes points in phase space clearly for researchers. Specially, a 2D structure of timeseries could combine the trend and correlation... Читать дальше...

Stakeholder collaboration for solid waste management in a small tourism island

Plos.org

by Jarotwan Koiwanit, Viachaslau Filimonau

Although stakeholder collaboration is key for sustainable development of tourism in small islands, research on its determinants is only emerging. The lack of empirical studies hampers an understanding of how effective stakeholder partnerships for sustainability in small tourism islands can be formed and sustained. To partially address this knowledge gap, this study explores stakeholder collaboration for solid waste management in the island of Koh Phayam... Читать дальше...

The unstudied effects of wording and answer formats in the analysis of impartiality in public service provision

Plos.org

by Juan Carlos Martín, Pedro Moreira, Concepción Román

Impartiality in public services provision is an important dimension that explains the quality of government (QoG). The analysis of impartiality has boomed in recent years at different territorial levels, like countries or regions. The impartiality measures depend on several attributes that are aggregated using different methods. However, little attention has been given to the effects of negative wording attributes and the number of format answers... Читать дальше...

Individual and community-level factors associated with discrimination among women aged 15–49 years in Bangladesh: Evidence based on multiple indicator cluster survey

Plos.org

by Iqramul Haq, Md. Mizanur Rahman Sarker, Sharanon Chakma

Background

This research aimed to examine the factors at both the individual and community levels that are linked to discrimination experienced by women aged 15–49 in Bangladesh.

Methods

The relevant data was taken from the 2019 Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey in Bangladesh. The risk factors for discrimination against women in Bangladesh were determined using multilevel logistic regression models.

Results

The overall... Читать дальше...

Circular RNA mediated gene regulation in human breast cancer: A bioinformatics analysis

Plos.org

by Giulia Fiscon, Alessio Funari, Paola Paci

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a new acknowledged class of RNAs that has been shown to play a major role in several biological functions both in physiological and pathological conditions, operating as critical part of regulatory processes, like competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) networks. The ceRNA hypothesis is a recently discovered molecular mechanism that adds a new key layer of post-transcriptional regulation, whereby various types of RNAs can... Читать дальше...

The role of perceived threat and self-efficacy in the use of Insecticide Treated Bednets (ITNs) to prevent malaria among pregnant women in Tororo District, Uganda

Plos.org

by Charles Nelson Kakaire, Nicola Christofides

Background

Despite increased coverage of Insecticide Treated Nets (ITNs) due to free distribution programs, ITN use in Uganda remains sub optimal among pregnant women. This study explored the relationship between constructs of a theoretical framework and Net use.

Objective

The study examined the role of constructs from the Extended Parallel Process Model (EPPM) in determining ITN use amongst pregnant women 15–49 years in Tororo district, Uganda. Читать дальше...

Life history, nest longevity, sex ratio, and nest architecture of the fungus-growing ant Mycetosoritis hartmanni (Formicidae: Attina)

Plos.org

by Ulrich G. Mueller, Anna G. Himler, Caroline E. Farrior

Mycetosoritis hartmanni is a rarely collected fungus-farming ant of North America. We describe life history and nest architecture for a M. hartmanni population in central Texas, USA. Colonies are monogynous with typically less than 100 workers (average 47.6 workers, maximum 148 workers). Nests occur always in sand and have a uniform architecture with 1–3 underground garden chambers arranged along a vertical tunnel, with the deepest gardens 50–70 cm deep. Читать дальше...

How to optimize dust pollution control in opencast coal mines: Analysis of a joint social regulation model based on evolutionary game theory

Plos.org

by Xu Lian, Wensheng Wang, Jianmin Zhang

The carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals drive innovation in pollution governance systems, unleashing the potential of social supervisory forces to achieve coordinated governance by multiple stakeholders. In order to improve dust pollution control in opencast coal mines, this study combines prospect theory with evolutionary game theory, analyzing the evolutionary game process of coordinated governance activities of coal mining enterprises, local regulators... Habitat isolation interacts with top-down and bottom-up processes in a seagrass ecosystem

Plos.org

by Elizabeth W. Carroll, Amy L. Freestone

Habitat loss is accelerating at unprecedented rates, leading to the emergence of smaller, more isolated habitat remnants. Habitat isolation adversely affects many ecological processes independently, but little is known about how habitat isolation may interact with ecosystem processes such as top-down (consumer-driven) and bottom-up (resource-driven) effects. To investigate the interactive influence of habitat isolation, resource availability and consumer... Читать дальше...

Primary spontaneous pneumomediastinum: 237 cases in a single-center experience over a 10-year period and assessment of factors related with recurrence

Plos.org

by Min Hyuk Yu, Jin Kyem Kim, Taeho Kim, Hong Seon Lee, Dong Kyu Kim

Objective

To evaluate the precipitating factors and symptoms of primary spontaneous pneumomediastinum (PSPM) and to assess the factors related with recurrent spontaneous pneumomediastinum (RSPM).

Methods

From 2010 to 2021, 237 PSPM patients were included in this retrospective study. Clinical information including in-hospital periods, morbidity, mortality, presenting symptoms, precipitating events, smoking, and asthma history was obtained. Читать дальше...
