Flash flood in mountainous regions have caused significant damage worldwide in recent years, impacting and destroying structures. The impact load of flash flood is the key factor in the process of destruction. In this study five existing models for impact pressure calculation were compared and analyzed based on experimental data. What’s important, combining two existing models, a new model considering both hydrodynamic and hydrostatic pressure was proposed. Читать дальше...

The Dysarthric Expressed Emotional Database (DEED) is a novel, parallel multimodal (audio-visual) database of dysarthric and typical emotional speech in British English which is a first of its kind. It is an induced (elicited) emotional database that includes speech recorded in the six basic emotions: “happiness”, “sadness”, “anger”, “surprise”, “fear”, and “disgust”. A “neutral” state has also been recorded as a baseline condition. The... Читать дальше...

We attempted to replicate a potential tinnitus biomarker in humans based on the Sensory Precision Integrative Model of Tinnitus called the Intensity Mismatch Asymmetry. A few advances on the design were also included, including tighter matching of participants for gender, and a control stimulus frequency of 1 kHz to investigate whether any differences between control and tinnitus groups are specific to the tinnitus frequency or domain-general. ObjectiveRecent research has suggested that m6A modification takes on critical significance to Neurodegeneration. As indicated by the genome-wide map of m6A mRNA, genes in Alzheimer’s disease model achieved significant m6A methylation. This study aimed to investigate the hub gene and pathway of m6A modification in the pathogenesis of AD. Moreover, possible brain regions with higher gene expression levels and compounds exerting potential therapeutic effects were identified. Читать дальше...

The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the existing literature by investigating the determinants of the profitability of Islamic and conventional banks in the Middle East region and revealing the most important factors for these two types of banks. Few papers have studied the performance of Islamic banks and compared their performance with conventional banks. The results from these limited research papers are also various, mainly because the sample sizes are small... Читать дальше...

Transparency and peer control are cornerstones of good scientific practice and entail the replication and reproduction of findings. The feasibility of replications, however, hinges on the premise that original researchers make their data and research code publicly available. This applies in particular to large-N observational studies, where analysis code is complex and may involve several ambiguous analytical decisions. To investigate which... Читать дальше...

The blue crab Callinectes sapidus (Rathbun, 1896) is one of the most invasive species in the Mediterranean Sea. Understand how the populations are maintained and how the environment is driving the populations in the areas invaded is the key to an effective future management. This current study is presenting a monthly long-term monitoring of the blue crabs’ population structure, body size, sexual maturity, reproduction periods and fecundity... Читать дальше...

This study investigates the impact of financial technology (fintech) on bank efficiency in Taiwan from 2007 to 2020, using parametric and non-parametric analyses. In the future, fintech is expected to play an important role in bank sustainability operations. The findings show that fintech-related initiatives affect bank efficiency. These results illustrate how fintech can help banks directly or indirectly improve their efficiency, leading to higher profits or lower costs. Читать дальше...

Brain waves of discrete rhythms (gamma to delta frequency ranges) are ubiquitously recorded and interpreted with respect to probable corresponding specific functions. The most challenging idea of interpreting varied frequencies of brain waves has been postulated as a communication mechanism in which different neuronal assemblies use specific ranges of frequencies cooperatively. One promising candidate is cross-frequency coupling (CFC), in which some neuronal assemblies... Читать дальше...

In an increasingly interconnected society, preventing epidemics has become a major challenge. Numerous infectious diseases spread between individuals by a vector, creating bipartite networks of infection with the characteristics of complex networks. In the case of dengue, a mosquito-borne disease, these infection networks include a vector—the Aedes aegypti mosquito—which has expanded its endemic area due to climate change. In this scenario, innovative approaches... Читать дальше...
