Digital House / Julian Krüger + Benjamin Kemper

Archdaily.com

A novel approach to digital fabrication in architecture has emerged in Wismar, a historic Hanseatic city in Northern Germany, with the creation of the “Digital House” - a prototypical building entirely digitally designed, fabricated, and assembled without the need for tools. Julian Krüger (Munich University of Applied Sciences) and Benjamin Kemper (Wismar University of Applied Sciences) developed a sustainable, cost-effective building system based on innovative plug-in construction methods. Differences of oribatid mite community and trophic structure between karst caves and surface different moss habitats

Plos.org

by Tong Gong, Xiumei Yin, Wenjun Liu, Hu Chen, Zheng Shi

In order to reveal the community characteristics and trophic structure of oribatid mites in different moss habitats in karst caves, the oribatid mites in the moss habitats of ground (GD), understory (US), cave wall (CW), surface shrub (SB) and farmland (FL) outside the cave were collected in October 2021. Through the identification and data analysis of oribatid mites, 2352 oribatid mites were found, belonging to 45 families and 72 genera, most of which were Gymnonota. Читать дальше...

The first aphasia screening test in Hungarian: A preliminary study on validity and diagnostic accuracy

Plos.org

by Lilla Zakariás, Ágnes Lukács

The Hungarian Aphasia Screening Test (HAST) is a newly developed diagnostic tool for detecting post-stroke aphasia in clinical settings, and for differentiating between stroke patients with and without aphasia. The HAST was developed by our team and has not been published in English yet. In Hungarian, to date, there is no aphasia screening test with reported psychometric properties available. This study aims to present the main characteristics of the HAST and to evaluate its validity... Читать дальше...

Regulation of transcriptome networks that mediate ginsenoside biosynthesis by essential ecological factors

by Zhongce Wang, Zhiguo Chen, You Tang, Meiping Zhang, Meng Huang

Ginseng, a valuable Chinese medicinal herb, is renowned worldwide for its effectiveness in alleviating certain conditions and promoting overall health. In this study, we performed weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) on the accumulation of essential saponins under the influence of 13 essential environmental factors (including air temperature, air bottom temperature, surface mean temperature, soil temperature... Quantitative microbial risk assessment of haemolytic uremic syndrome associated with Argentinean kosher beef consumption in Israel

Plos.org

by Victoria Brusa, Sergio Dolev, Marcelo Signorini, Gerardo Leotta

The aim of this study was to perform a quantitative microbial risk assessment (QMRA) of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli hemolytic uremic syndrome (STEC-HUS) linked to the consumption of Kosher beef produced in Argentina and consumed in Israel in children under 14 years. A probabilistic risk assessment model was developed to characterize STEC prevalence and contamination levels in the beef supply chain (cattle primary production... Читать дальше...

Utility of the angle between the cervical canal and the anatomical conjugate line for predicting pouch of Douglas obliteration in patients with posterior placenta previa

Plos.org

by Satoshi Shinohara, Mayuko Kasai, Genki Yasuda, Rei Sunami

Aim

Pouch of Douglas obliteration, which prevents exteriorization of the uterus, increases surgical morbidity in patients with placenta previa. We aimed to identify magnetic resonance imaging features that can predict pouch of Douglas obliteration preoperatively.

Methods

We retrospectively assessed 39 women with posterior placenta previa who underwent magnetic resonance imaging for the preoperative assessment of placenta accreta spectrum. Читать дальше...

Developed steady-state response for a new hybrid damper mounted on structures

Plos.org

by Mohammad Ziaee, Farzad Hejazi

Coulomb friction is considered as a mechanical approach to diminish the structural responses during the excitations. However, in case of severe oscillations supplementary mechanisms are employed besides the friction to mitigate the destructive effects of the vibrations in structures. Therefore, the main goal of this research is to develop a new Hybrid System (HS) which is a parallel combination of Viscous Damping (VD) and Coulomb friction for structures subjected to dynamic load. Alkaline water as a potential agent for biting midge control: Managing effectiveness and non-target organism impact evaluation

Plos.org

by Siti Latifatus Siriyah, I-Min Tso

Biting midge Forcipomyia taiwana is one of the common pests in East Asia. Their nuisance and blood-sucking behavior causes problems not only for human health but also for some industries. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of spraying alkaline water on controlling biting midge population and potential side effects of such approach on non-target organisms. Laboratory experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of alkaline water on oviposition... Читать дальше...

Study on the migration characteristics of bioaerosols and optimization of ventilation patterns in a negative pressure isolation ward considering different patient postures

by Dieen Wu, Jianji Chen, Xihua Fu, Zongkun Li, Futai Tan, Hai Lin

Due to the serious global harm caused by the outbreak of various viral infectious diseases, how to improve indoor air quality and contain the spread of infectious bioaerosols has become a popular research subject. Negative pressure isolation ward is a key place to prevent the spread of aerosol particles. However, there is still limited knowledge available regarding airflow patterns and bioaerosol diffusion behavior in the ward... Читать дальше...
