China launches drills around Taiwan in angry response to VP's US trip
China has begun military drills around Taiwan, calling it a "serious warning" to separatist forces after Vice President William Lai returned from the US. Taiwan's government had anticipated the exercises, which come ahead of a presidential election in January. The People's Liberation Army's Eastern Theatre Command said it was carrying out joint naval and air readiness patrols and holding exercises and training around subjects including ships and aircraft co-ordination and control seizure.
