IMF says global debt fell as share of GDP in 2022, may resume rising trend

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has reported that global debt as a percentage of economic output declined for the second consecutive year in 2022. However, this decline may be coming to an end as the post-COVID growth surge fades. The IMF's Global Debt Database revealed that the world's total debt to-GDP ratio fell to 238% in 2022 from 248% in 2021 and 258% in 2020.

Technology to utilize the full spectrum of solar radiation—called all-solar utilization—is still in its infancy.

Two new rotating radio transients discovered

Using the Large Phased Array (LPA) radio telescope of the Lebedev Physical Institute (LPI) in Pushchino, Russia, astronomers have detected two new rotating radio transients (RRATS). The finding is reported in a research paper published September 2 on the pre-print server arXiv.



Libya flooding leaves thousands dead

The city of Derna in eastern Libya was home to nearly 100,000 people when Mediterranean Storm Daniel struck, causing catastrophic flooding. As CBS News' Holly Williams reports, one Libyan official says more than 5,000 people were killed. The Red Cross previously said 10,000 were missing.

Fears mount of surging death toll in Libya flood disaster
