Transformations, trajectories, and similarities of national production structures: A comparative fingerprinting approach

Plos.org

by Carl Nordlund

This article proposes a network-analytical framework for the comparative study of national production structures in global production networks. Conceptualizing such structures as the linked networks of both domestic and foreign intermediate inputs, the latter constituting the characteristic feature of contemporary economic globalization, the proposed approach extracts a structural profile that captures the up- and downstream prominence of economic sectors for a particular country and year. A network approach to zooarchaeological datasets and human-centered ecosystems in southwestern Florida

Plos.org

by Isabelle Holland-Lulewicz, Jacob Holland-Lulewicz

Zooarchaeological datasets are often large, complex, and difficult to visualize and communicate. Many visual aids and summaries often limit the patterns that can be identified and mask interpretations of relationships between contexts, species, and environmental information. The most commonly used of these often include bar charts, pie charts, and other such graphs that aid in categorizing data and highlighting the differences or similarities between categories. Regional anaesthesia practice in public hospitals in Botswana: A cross-sectional study

Plos.org

by Mamo Kassa, Farai Madzimbamuto, Gaone Kediegite, Eugene Tuyishime

Introduction

Little is known about the regional anesthesia practice in low resources settings (LRS). The aim of this study was to describe the regional anesthesia capacity, characteristics of regional anesthesia practice, and challenges and solutions of practicing safe regional anesthesia in public hospitals in Botswana.

Methods

This was a cross-sectional survey of anesthesia providers working in public hospitals in Botswana. Читать дальше...

Effects of cattle on vector-borne disease risk to humans: A systematic review

Plos.org

by Sulagna Chakraborty, Siyu Gao, Brian. F. Allan, Rebecca Lee Smith

Vector-borne pathogens (VBPs) causing vector-borne diseases (VBDs) can circulate among humans, domestic animals, and wildlife, with cattle in particular serving as an important source of exposure risk to humans. The close associations between humans and cattle can facilitate the transmission of numerous VBPs, impacting public health and economic security. Published studies demonstrate that cattle can influence human exposure risk positively... Читать дальше...

A kinetic model of iron trafficking in growing Saccharomyces cerevisiae cells; applying mathematical methods to minimize the problem of sparse data and generate viable autoregulatory mechanisms

Plos.org

by Shantanu Thorat, Jay R. Walton, Paul A. Lindahl

Iron is an essential transition metal for all eukaryotic cells, and its trafficking throughout the cell is highly regulated. However, the overall cellular mechanism of regulation is poorly understood despite knowing many of the molecular players involved. Here, an ordinary-differential-equations (ODE) based kinetic model of iron trafficking within a growing yeast cell was developed that included autoregulation. The 9-reaction 8-component...
