RMB funded renewables projects worth R50bn last year and is gearing up for private grid prospects

Corporate and investment bank RMB reports that it financed renewable-energy investments worth R50-billion over the past year and is expecting ongoing high levels of renewables funding this year, while positioning itself to also finance private grid projects in future. Infrastructure sector solutions head Judy Kobus reports that the bank’s funding has supported projects with a combined capacity of 2 400 MW, which were implemented on the back of both public and private procurement initiatives in South Africa.

The Ministry of Labour and Employment is investigating the death of Anna Sebastian Perayil, a 26-year-old Ernst & Young employee, due to work-related stress. Following a complaint by her mother, the central labour ministry has directed the regional labour commissioner’s office to review the matter and seek an explanation from the company regarding its work culture.

South African company is turning its landfills into green landfills

Turning the landfills it manages into green landfills is a priority for South African waste management group EnviroServ. This was highlighted by group operations director Nico Vermeulen, at the 2024 International Solid Waste Association conference, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. The group operates 11 landfills, nine of which are in South Africa, with one each in Mozambique and Uganda. Six of these sites are owned by EnviroServ, while it manages the other five.
