[Women's Soccer] Romero's Game-Winner Gives Hawks First Conference Win
PHOENIX – For the second time in two years, the SDC women's soccer team has defeated Arizona Christian. The Hawks won last year 2-1 before winning again this time by a score of 3-2.
SDC improves to 4-7 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
Alexia Orenday started the scoring early in the first half with a goal in the 4th minute. Lindsay Clover drilled a free-kick that was saved but Orenday cleaned it up for the 1-0 lead. Clover was able to get one of her own in the 29th minute increasing the lead to 2-1. ACU scored in the 32nd minute to cut the deficit to 2-1 and it was that score at the break.
Arizona Christian was able to tie the game in the 67th minute but one minute later, Veronica Romero scored the game-winner.
The Hawks outshot the Firestorm 16-7 in the contest. Shelbi Horner tallied five saves in the 90 minutes.
SDC will be back home on Thursday as they host Menlo at 1 p.m.
