The lone lifeguard tower on El Segundo Beach is now sporting a bright, hopeful shade of pink.
In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a crew of volunteers grabbed brushes and helped paint the teal tower on Saturday morning, Oct. 5, as local leaders gave dedication speeches.
The painting of the tower is to raise awareness for the disease that affects 1 in 8 U.S. women, according to BreastCancer.org.
“It will be an opportunity to raise awareness about early warning signs of breast cancer as well as raise up the stories of people and families who have been affected by this terrible disease,” said Supervisor Janice Hahn, who represents El Segundo, in a statement.
The tower will remain pink until the end of the month, thanks to sponsorships from Behr Paint and Tower 60 Foundation.
